Andres Burbano
SIGGRAPH 2024 Conference Chair
Andrés Burbano is a media artist and scholar focusing on the history of media technology. Currently, he holds the position of associate professor in the School of Arts and Humanities at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, and serves as a visiting professor at Danube University in Krems, Austria. Burbano earned his Ph.D. in media arts and technology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His book “Different Engines: Media Technologies from Latin America” is a substantial publication released by Routledge in 2023. Throughout his career, Dr. Burbano has engaged in research projects funded by reputable organizations, including NatGeo, NSF, IDRC, NASA, and Universidad de los Andes. His academic work has been recognized through distinctions by organizations such as Fulbright and the DAAD. He serves as the co-editor-in-chief of Artnodes, a diamond open-access journal acknowledged as Q1 by Scopus. In 2024, Dr. Burbano is set to elevate his commitment further, assuming the role of conference chair at SIGGRAPH 2024 conference.

Dr. Şölen Kıratlı is an artist, architect, researcher, and lecturer at the University of California, San Diego. She received her Ph.D. in media arts and technology from University of California, Santa Barbara. Her work is interdisciplinary and deals with issues of agency and digital technology. She is the recipient of several awards from renowned institutions, including SIGGRAPH (Best in Show award, 2020) and Fundación Telefónica (VIDA 13.0, Artistic Production Incentives). Her work has been exhibited internationally at many venues, including SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH Asia Art Gallery, ISEA, New Technological Art Awards (Finalist), CURRENTS New Media, Contemporary Istanbul, IEEE VIS Art Program, and ACM Multimedia Art Gallery.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Art Gallery Co-Chair, Şölen is responsible for the outreach, submission process, and implementation of an exhibit of innovative, high-quality, fine art and/or design produced using computer graphics and interactive techniques.

Mohumagadi Moruti is an emerging curator, researcher, and writer with a background in computing and an ongoing pursuit of an M.A. in media arts cultures at Danube University Krems. Her research explores the ontology of technology and cultural narratives, ideologies, and metaphors embedded in technological artifacts. She has been actively involved in curatorial and collaborative projects with artists within and outside Southern Africa and Europe through the Botswana National Gallery, Aalborg University, and various private galleries. Her work mirrors a dynamic combination of interests in art, science, religion, the human condition, and technology. She served at SIGGRAPH 2023 Art Gallery as Subcommittee and Jury member.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Art Gallery Co-Chair, Mohu is responsible for the outreach, submission process, and implementation of an exhibit of innovative, high-quality, fine art and/or design produced using computer graphics and interactive techniques.

Art Papers Chair
August Black is a hybrid practitioner of art, design, and engineering that critically engages with techno-social systems in playful and evocative ways. He creates software, systems, and spaces through experimental research in the overlapping areas of new formats, network dynamics, and virtual architectures with a focus on audio and transmission. His activities tend to evoke themes of power, migration, play, noise, chance, and operate under methods of collaboration, commons-building, and communal interaction. He’s been a team member of organizations such as the ORF Kunstradio, the Ars Electronica Futurelab, the UCSB BioImaging Lab, and Cycling ’74 — the makers of Max/MSP. He’s shown works at places such as Dutch Electronic Arts Festival, Ars Electronica, Wave Farm, and TSONAMI Festival de Arte Sonoro, among others. He holds a Ph.D. in media, arts, and technology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is currently an assistant professor at Colorado University Boulder in the department of critical media practices.
As the Art Papers Chair, August manages SIGGRAPH’s forum for honoring artistic research while overseeing the submissions process, jury selection, review, acceptance, and final editing of the papers.

Ruth West is an artist and professor at University of North Texas cross-appointed in Design and Computer Science, and director of the xREZ Art + Science Lab.
Her work expands the potentials of immersive technologies to create new contexts and forms of engagement, and to connect us cross-culturally and cross-generationally. She creates multi-modal, social and collaborative data-driven extended reality (XR) interactive experiences. Ruth’s prior affiliations include UCSD National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research, UCLA Center for Embedded Networked Sensing and Cedars-Sinai Health System. Her work has been published in journals including SPIE/IS&T Engineering Reality of Virtual Reality, MIT Leonardo journal, American Journal of Human Genetics, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and presented internationally at venues including MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, FILE 09 Sao Paulo, SIGGRAPH, WIRED Magazine’s NextFest.

Kyllea Kerg is an award-winning motion graphics animator, designer, and art director based in Brooklyn, New York. A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art and Animation Mentor, she has worked on a variety of projects for nonprofits, corporate clients, special events, and short films. She has received multiple Emmys, contributed to Promax-awarded campaigns, and episodes of a variety of children’s shows airing on Nickelodeon. Her past work includes the visual identity for a nonprofit that builds water projects in Uganda; set graphics and promotional work for an experimental theatre group; and real-time graphics animation for Slimetime NFL games. She is currently working as a motion graphics animator at Nickelodeon.

Recently retired from full-time teaching, Dr. Joel spent almost forty years as a professor of Computer Science, focusing on all aspects of Art & Technology. In 1995, he received a PhD in Computer & Information Sciences from Syracuse University, where his thesis focused on a Conceptual Model for Computer Animation. Since 1987, he has almost continuously been a member of the SIGGRAPH Education Committee. Currently, he directs the Computer Graphics & Animation Research Projects initiative, an international program that establishes research projects and seeks undergraduate students to staff the project teams.

John Kalaigian is the supervisor of the CG department at Hornet, an award-winning commercial advertising and mixed media animation studio located in New York City. His passions include crafting high-end visualization, blending design with technology to apply methods both old and new to solve creative challenges. Away from professional commitments, he is an avid fan of filmmaking history, specifically visual and/or specials effects. John enjoys being active, where you can find him either running, playing tennis, soccer, ice hockey, and skiing. He has served as program chair for SIGGRAPH 2021 Production Sessions, as well as a subcommittee member of the SIGGRAPH 2023 Electronic Theater and SIGGRAPH 2020 and 2022 Production Sessions.
As the Electronic Theater Director, John oversees the submissions and entries, jury selection, and showcase of the Academy Award-qualifying Computer Animation Festival Electronic Theater.

Angus Forbes’ interdisciplinary research in computational media focuses on topics in graphics and visualization, and recent projects include the creation of interactive tools for visualizing large simulation datasets, bio-inspired approaches to data reconstruction, and neural rendering architectures for temporally stable real-time denoising and supersampling. He received his Ph.D. from University of California, Santa Barbara’s Media Arts & Technology graduate program, and he previously served as SIGGRAPH 2018 Art Papers Chair and SIGGRAPH 2021 Art Gallery Chair. Angus is a member of NVIDIA’s Strategic Researcher Engagement team.
As the Emerging Technologies Chair, Angus is responsible for the planning, selection process, and implementation of the annual conference’s Emerging Technologies program.

June Kim is a Lecturer at the faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture, University of New South Wales, Sydney. She teaches and supervises students in the disciplines of Media Arts and Interaction Design. She has served as a conference chair for SIGGRAPH Asia 2023, a program co-chair for SIGGRAPH Asia 2019 Art Gallery and a juror and reviewers for Art gallery, Art papers, Emerging technologies, Immersive Pavilion, and XR for SIGGRAPH and SIGGRAPH Asia conferences for multiple years.

Elin Carstensdottir is an assistant professor of computational media at UC Santa Cruz where she directs the Interaction Dynamics lab. Her research focuses on building frameworks, visualizations, and research tools for improving design, development, and analysis of video games, player experiences, and interactive narratives. Her recent projects include serious games for studying resilience and imposter syndrome and social behavior simulation tools for studying human-AI agent interactions. She holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Northeastern University.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Games Focus Area Chair, Elin compiles a program exploring issues and innovative uses of computer graphics and interactive techniques in the gaming industry.

Susan Reiser is a senior lecturer and the advisor to the provost at UNC Asheville. She is one of the co-founders of STEAM Studio, UNC Asheville’s 12,000 square foot making place where they emphasize human-centered design at the intersection of art and technology in projects with and for community partners. Her graphics related work has transitioned from writing computer vision applications for Duke Med School’s Electrophysiology Lab to creating data materializations with Courtney Starrett at Texas A&M’s VIVID Lab. Susan enjoys swimming and hiking — especially hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and on the California Coastal Trail.
As SIGGRAPH 2024 General Submissions Chair, Susan manages the unified jury and reviewer experience with the goal of scheduling an engaging general submissions program for the conference.

Nicolas Henchoz is the founding director of the EPFL+ECAL Lab, the design research center of the Ecole polytechnique fédérale of Lausanne, Switzerland. An engineer, researcher, art director, and manager, he has developed a unique vision of innovation, blending cultural creativity, scientific practices, and human observation to foster sustainable adoption. His projects have led to many academic contributions and awards. He has also curated more than 30 exhibitions in institutions, including the American Institute of Architecture (NYC), the Royal College of Art (London), and the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris and Harvard University. He’s the co-founder of GAMI Global Alliance for Media Innovation and has been honored as a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French minister for culture and communication. Nicolas was the SIGGRAPH 2023 Art Papers Chair.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Global Diplomat Chair, Nicolas is extending the venue to new actors, conceiving a unique exhibit space, and creating session discussions to open a new perspective of growth for SIGGRAPH based on a better consideration of the interaction between tech performance and human perception.

Jeremy Pollard has been enthusiastically building networks for over 20 years. He joined the GraphicsNet team in 2011 and previously served as GraphicsNet Chair for SIGGRAPH 2015. He has served on Industrial Advisory Boards for both the School of Information and the Department of Cybersecurity at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York. For his day job, Jeremy is a Video platform engineer at Caffeine.tv where he builds low-latency video live-streaming services.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 GraphicsNet Chair, Jeremy is responsible for working with his fellow program chairs to understand their visions and support their connectivity needs.

Derek Ham, Ph.D., is a professor and department head of media arts, design, and technology at NC State University’s College of Design. He is an award-winning VR director, design educator, and immersive storyteller. Trained as an architect, he earned his Ph.D. in design computation from MIT, a master’s in architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, and a bachelor of architecture from Hampton University. In his research, he continues to investigate both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technology to find ways these tools can expand the way we work, play, and learn. His most recent VR project, “Barnstormers,” was shown at the 2022 Cannes XR. Outside of traditional classes, he runs the Mixed Reality Lab where he works with students in the areas of media, entertainment, and emerging technology.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Immersive Pavilion Chair, Derek is responsible for the outreach, planning, selection process, and implementation of the annual conference’s Immersive Pavilion program.

Asiya Gizatulina is a Senior Staff Software Engineer in cybersecurity at Palo Alto Networks, holding a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor’s in Computer Animation from FIT NY.
Beyond that, Asiya actively engages with web3 technologies, participating in international hackathons and contributing to various projects. She has served as the CTO for a decentralized esports and Web3 gaming community on the Solana blockchain.
Her engagement with SIGGRAPH began in 2015 as a student volunteer. In her current role as Chair of the International Resources Committee, she supports her committee in organizing sessions that highlight regional industry trends, encourages networking among professionals, and enhances the international community’s support during the conference

Jonah Brucker-Cohen is an artist, writer, and associate professor at Lehman College/CUNY. He received his Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin, and his artwork has been exhibited at venues such as SFMOMA, Canadian Museum of Contemporary Art, MOMA, ICA London, Whitney Museum of American Art, Palais du Tokyo, Tate Modern, Ars Electronica, Transmediale, and more. His writing has appeared in publications such as Wired and Make, and his Scrapyard Challenge workshops have been held in over 15 countries on five continents. Two of his artworks are included in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Labs Chair, Jonah is responsible for planning and implementing a creative and robust workshop environment where conference attendees can experiment with various input and output technologies and explore conference work on-site at the conference.

Munkhtsetseg (Muunuu) Nandigjav serves as an associate dean for the School of Animation and Motion at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Muunuu has been involved with SIGGRAPH conferences for over a decade, from chairing the Student Volunteer program in 2017 and serving as the Creative Development Director in 2018 and 2019 to directing the Computer Animation Festival Electronic Theater in 2020. Muunuu was the SIGGRAPH 2022 Conference Chair in Vancouver.
For SIGGRAPH 2024, Muunuu re-imagined a program formerly known as Business Symposium for its next evolution to serve the greater SIGGRAPH community.

Alexandra Ion is an assistant professor at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science. She directs the Interactive Structures Lab, where she and her team investigate and develop interactive design tools that enable the digital fabrication of complex structures for novice users. Interactive structures embed functionality within their geometry such that they can react to simple input with complex behavior. Such structures enable materials that can, e.g., embed robotic movement, perform computations, or communicate with users. Her lab develops optimization-based interactive design tools that enable novices to contribute their creativity and experts to apply their intuition in order to foster the advancement of high-tech materials. Her work is published at and awarded by top-tier HCI (ACM CHI & UIST) and graphics venues (ACM SIGGRAPH). It was invited for multiple exhibitions, including a permanent exhibition at the Ars Electronica Center in Austria. Her work also captured the interest of media such as Wired, Dezeen, Fast Company, Gizmodo, etc., and she was invited for a TEDx Talk.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Posters Chair, Alexandra is responsible for the outreach, planning, submission process, and presentation of the Posters program at the conference.

Jonathan Nitiparsong is a software engineer with expertise in educational app development. He has designed award-winning augmented reality experiences for museums, zoos, and schools.
His work focuses on merging entertainment and education to deliver engaging learning experiences. He is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of interactive learning by combining creativity and technology to inspire students of all ages.
As SIGGRAPH 2024 Production Sessions Chair, Jonathan is responsible for the planning, submission process, review and acceptance, and production of each Production Session in cooperation with the relevant studio for the annual conference.

Emily Hsu is a producer whose mission is to empower and advocate for the ability of storytelling across the mediums of animation, gaming, visual effects, and beyond. Currently a line producer at Netflix Animation with prior experiences at Blizzard Entertainment, LAIKA, Pixar Animation Studios, and PDI/DreamWorks, she enjoys finding the intersections where art and technology meet and engaging with this community around the world as one of the founders of the Society for Game Cinematics and through her work in SIGGRAPH.
Emily has been an avid volunteer for SIGGRAPH for over a decade, having started her conference journey as a Student Volunteer, then as Team Leader, subcommittee member, and finally program chair. Emily previously chaired the Oscar-qualifying Computer Animation Festival Electronic Theater and Production Sessions for SIGGRAPH 2017, 2018, and 2019.
As SIGGRAPH 2024 Real-Time Live! Chair, Emily manages the outreach and submissions process, jury selection, review and acceptance, and final execution of the live show as well as any related Real-Time Live! content on-site at the conference. When it comes to presenting in real-time, anything can happen!

Julian Gomez is the co-founder, Nuon Play, and founder, Center for Computer Graphics History. His research covers the role of cognitive science in immersive technologies for knowledge management. He is building an API to the human cognitive system, and he represents history with graph databases. He studied computer science at UC Berkeley and also completed bilateral programs in computer character animation, chaos theory, at Ohio State University. Gomez previously worked at NASA JPL Computer Graphics Lab, NASA RIACS, MacroMind, Apple, LEGO Chief Scientist, Sun Microsystems Java 3D, Condition One, Tanzle, and for some startups. He is interested in computer character animation, chaos theory, 3D software systems, information technology, mobile tech, graph databases, knowledge management, and XR.

Everardo Reyes is professor of information and communication sciences at the Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis, where he directs the masters in digital humanities. His research topics include digital culture, visual information, media art, and interrelations between art-science-technology-humanities (ASTH). He served as SIGGRAPH 2019 Art Papers Chair. He has authored, edited, translated, and published a dozen books on digital topics. He is currently secretary of the board of ISEA International.

Gabrielle Robinson currently works as an Animation Production Manager at Steamroller Animation in Mount Dora, FL. Having received her BFA in Animation at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Gabrielle’s passions have always involved art, technology and organization and being a part of the SIGGRAPH community has had a special impact on her professional life. This is Gabrielle’s sixth year at SIGGRAPH, having been a Student Volunteer in 2019 and 2020, Team Leader in 2021, and Student Volunteer Sub-Committee Communications Manager 2022-2023.
As the SIGGRAPH 2024 Student Volunteer Chair, Gabrielle is responsible for the student volunteer program which is an essential part of what helps SIGGRAPH run so smoothly for participants each year.

Denis Zorin is silver professor of computer science and mathematics and the chair of the computer science department at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Prior to joining Courant, he was a postdoc at Stanford University, and completed his Ph.D. thesis at California Institute of Technology. Denis’s primary interests span the domains of geometric modeling, geometry processing, and scientific computing. His main contributions are in the theory and practical algorithms for subdivision surfaces, efficient algorithms for deformation, parameterization, meshing, computational methods for integral equations, and optimization-based techniques for computational fabrication. His awards include ACM Fellow, SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Achievement Award, SIGGRAPH Academy membership, ACM Gordon Bell Prize, Sloan Foundation Fellowship, NSF Career award, and several IBM Partnership awards. He served on many program committees and editorial boards.

Yangos Hadjiyannis is a creative director, experientialist, and mentor with a focus in shaping the present and future of public XR-empowered experiences. He has successfully delivered 250 collaborative digital media projects with multi-talented teams, gaining recognition for his innovative work at the intersection of humans and immersion.
From 2018 onward, he played a pivotal role in advancing the SIGGRAPH VR Theater as its creative director and chair, presenting over 20,000 XR experiences to the SIGGRAPH audience.
He is currently driven in creating meaningful bridges between physical and virtual spaces to collectively inspire and transport audiences on voyages between realities.
His latest work includes notable projects across various industry, government, and cultural sectors, including CannesXR, New Images Festival, Alliance Francaise’s V-Unframed, Shakespeare @ the VAG, and many others. Yangos is a graduate of the acclaimed masters of digital media program awarded conjointly by four prestigious Universities: UBC, SFU, BCIT, and Emily Carr University, in Vancouver, Canada.

Ginger Alford is Professor of Computer Science at SMU Lyle School of Engineering in Dallas, TX, with focus on computer graphics, augmented reality, and machine learning. Her career has balanced experience in industry and education, including roles as lead software engineer at Raytheon, where she led the graphics algorithm team building a cutting-edge image analysis system for remote sensing, and as expert for intellectual property consulting related to halftoning with blue noise, display drivers and image processing. Committed to arts-centered engineering education, she has held Program Director roles in K-12 schools and museums to develop innovative curriculum and teacher training programs, including story-centered engineering through animatronics. She has been on the editorial board of IEEE Computer Graphics has several publications spanning the areas of halftoning, remote sensing and machine learning, and engineering education. Active as a volunteer with ACM SIGGRAPH since 2013, she served as Chair of the Education Committee and as 2019 and 2020 General Submission Chair before stepping into her current role as 2025 Conference Chair.
